FAQ

Thank you for interest in my services. If you’ve visited other pages on EnviroTechMarketing.com you will be aware of my background and the scope of my services. Below I have included answers to some other common questions. Of course, you can send me an email if you need to know more – and there’s never any obligation if you contact me . You can send me a message by completing the form to the right.

What kind of projects can you handle?

I can quickly grasp technical solutions, scientific concepts, and complex service offerings as well as the challenging marketing problems you face. And I can assist you in translating technical information into relevant and compelling business messages, whether for internal use or for lead generation.

For more information about my specific copywriting and consulting services, take a look at my services page.

What do you charge?

I normally quote flat project fees. This helps you know up front what to expect. It also prevents surprises. There may be an occasional instance where a project is not clearly defined or is recurring in nature and I  have to quote an hourly rate instead. In this hourly rate instance I will still include an estimate of total project time to assist you in your decision-making.

My project fees are based on several factors. These include the type of copy you require, the nature of the product or service you’re marketing, the call to action being made, and whether or not there are any existing materials to work from.

My fees are based not only on the time it will take to complete the project, but also on what the project is worth, as well as the value (in terms of expertise, experience, and process) that I bring to the table.

I examine your competitive position and delve deeper into your product or service and intended audience than most writers do. I am resolute in making your copy the best it can be and in unearthing those hidden gems that make your marketing that much more effective. That’s why it’s very difficult to bill by the hour. I’d rather agree on a flat fee and then do whatever’s required to perfect the copy and meet the deadlines.

How do we get started on a project?

I will need the following from you:

1) Fee Agreement & Payment

First, you will need to submit a signed fee agreement, which contains my project quotation. I also require 50 percent of the flat project fee to begin work. The remaining 50 percent is invoiced one week after the final draft is submitted. This second payment is due within 15 days of the invoice date. That means you have a just over 3 weeks to submit the balance from the date of the final draft.

2) Creative Brief

It’s impossible to write effective, powerful copy that hits the target without the right ammunition. It’s crucial that I receive key information about:

  • your product/service,
  • your offer (if necessary),
  • your target audience,
  • you competition
  • … and so on.

I provide you with a simple creative brief that you fill out and return. This makes the process a lot more efficient. Alternatively, we can go through the brief over the phone. After I receive the brief, I will probably have a couple further questions that I will email you so we can arrange a convenient time to discuss them.

How long will you take?

This depends on what you need written. However,  I generally allow two weeks for most projects. Some projects can require more time (such as copy for a large website or a complex white paper).

Of course, you may not have this much time but I may still be able to accommodate your “rush” job, so contact me anyway. I will be upfront as to whether I can meet your deadline. Just give me a good idea of your project requirements.  And if I can’t meet your deadline, I’ll be happy to refer you to one of my colleagues who may be able to turn it around more quickly.

I won’t miss your deadline. If I take on the project, I will have the copy to you on or before the promised date.

What if we need revisions?

I normally include two sets of requested revisions as part of the flat project fee I quote you. These have to be assigned within 30 days of your receipt of the copy, and they should not involve a change in direction, scope or format.

If, for some reason, you are not completely satisfied, I will gladly revise the copy according to your preference and at my expense. All I ask is that you take the time to help me pinpoint where the copy is lacking and why it’s missing the mark.

What guarantees do you make?

It is impossible to predict response rates or the number of inquiries you’ll receive. No one can. However, I always guarantee that you’ll be satisfied with my copy. And if it’s not right, I’ll fix it until it is. I simply ask that you help me pinpoint where the copy is lacking and why.
